Longing for Life
What if that longing and emptiness inside of your soul was just a longing to be in a relationship with your Creator?
We consistently distract ourselves with entertainment, constant social media scrolling, work, and filling our days with nonsense sometimes just for the sake of being busy. What we’re really afraid of is being still. Our nation and world are in desperate need of silence. We NEED to be wrestling with the meaning and purpose of why we’re here.
This world did not come to be because of some atoms combusting, eventually creating intelligent life. We are here on purpose, for a purpose. God knew us before we were even formed in our mother’s womb. He knows every hair on our head and every decision we will make. He is in love with you and me. Yet, He allows us the free will to either follow Him or not. He lets us continue living our busy life, not working through these feelings of longing and emptiness even though it breaks His heart.
As a Christian, this longing is still there for me today. It’s ultimately a feeling that will never go away while we’re living in our earthen vessels. It will only be fully satisfied at the end of our story when we meet our Creator.
Christians, it’s time to step up and live life purposefully. How different would the world look today if every one of us lived out God’s call to make disciples of all nations? This world needs YOU more than ever before. Every one of us has purpose and meaning.
I’m not letting myself off the hook either. I can be a workaholic at times; I frequently focus more on work and let go of the more important things. My anxiety rises up the most during these times. I feel the most unfulfilled during these times. Although I’m ultimately working for the Kingdom, it’s just not what we’re called to do. We aren’t machines. We weren’t created to go to school, get a job, get married, get paychecks, retire and die. We weren’t created to see who can gain the most followers on social media, have the most friends, and live the most comfortable life. Man, I feel like I’ve done it all and I’ve never truly felt fulfilled. There’s so much more to life than filling it with short-term happiness and chasing fleeting desires.
I like to think of life this way. Think of a rope wrapping all the way across the globe. Our lives on earth are like a foot of that rope. 12 inches. Think about how miniscule that is. The rest of that rope is our eternity. People think I’m wasting my foot of rope, when really, I’m living for those thousands upon thousands of miles of rope.
Don’t waste one more second of waiting and distracting yourself from this longing. God’s grace is already on your life, and He’s waiting for your call to Him.
